Dear native speakers:
I've often heard this phrase. Does it mean it's a theory that works or a theory that's still being worked out/on?
Thanks in advance
Raen
It can mean both, depending on the context.
Yippee! I've finally got a working theory.
I'm not sure, but here's my working theory.
The latter is more common.
Hi Raen
A working theory is a theory in the works/in the making: a theory that's being tested.
Thank you people. I appreciate it.![]()
