cash a check? correct phrase...

Hello everyone,

i want to find what is the correct thing to say when i go to the bank and i would like to get the money out of a check. I had in mind something like the following "Can i cash this cheque please?" which seems fine.

However, the bank does not cash cheques, what they do, is you give them the cheque, and then you enter your cash card in a machine, you enter your pin and when they verify you they enter the money of the cheque directly into you bank account. So the above expression is not suitable for this situation.

What would be more appropriate to say

What a convoluted process.

You are not actually cashing the cheque since apparently you only receive credit to your account and not the physical cash. "Please process this cheque" seems the nearest to your context.

In my opinion, you can say this: "Please cash out this check for me" or "Could I be paid this check in cash please?"

Thinking more about your question, I presume that you are talking about a cheque that is not originally drawn on your personal account, but which is made out to you on another person's account. If so, then you would still ask for the cashier to cash the cheque, but will of course need to prove that you are the correct recipient of the money.
