There are many terminal consonants and it is difficult to know what your difficulty is. What's your mother tongue?![]()
Dear all,
My advisor asks me to improve my pronunciation in terminal consonant.
Please tell me where I can learn it.
Thank you very much

My mother tongue is Vietnamese

Can you give me some examples of words you find difficult?
Vietnamese doesn't have terminal consonants. I think that is the reason why I am not familiar with terminal consonant pronunciation. My teacher in French say: "manger des mots".
I would love to get your suggestion about that.
Thanks
Tam
Try backchaining- take a multi-syllabic word and instead of starting with the first syllable, start with the last, then add the last but one syllable and so on to the start of the word. Also, try recording yourself and comparing it to native speakers- you can get recordings from www.dictionary.com and www.onelook.com and then you can compare yourself to them. You have to try to hear the word the way a native speaker does in your head. I know this is difficult- I am currently struggling with many sound in Khmer, and am trying to work out how they say them. Try to lose your inhibitions about sounding funny.![]()
