Hi All,
I want to tell my friend, please wait, I need to get some money in ATM, how do I say in idiomatic expression? Actually I also wanted to know use Money or Cash in this case?
Cash. In Br Eng, ATMs are commonly called 'cash machines' (some people do say 'ATM', but it's a fair bet that anyone who does also watches CSI)
Typically, you use the word 'cash' once: 'I need to get some cash from a machine' or 'I have to use a cash machine'.
When they started to appear on the High St (about 40 years ago) a cash machine was known as a 'hole in the wall' - as in 'Does your bank have a hole in the wall?'. This may have been originally a reference to Hole in the Wall Gang - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - I'm not saying it was, it's just a coincidence that has often struck me.
