Default Robin (bird) and Robin (Hood)

    hi

I just wonder if there is a connection between these two words:Robin (bird) and Robin (Hood). I wonder if Robin Hood the famous heroic outlaw in English folclore got this name after the bird ROBIN.

I believe that Robin is the diminutive form of Robert. I assume that the name comes from the old German and possibly French - the "in" ending seems to indicate that the word is in a diminutive form. Though the name was used for boys, in the U.S. it is mostly used for girls.
