Hi Everyone,
Which of the followings are correct?
1.
(a) Related Work
(b) Related Works
as a section title in a scholary paper.
2.
(a) Earlier work in this area, such as XXX and YYY, showed that ...
(b) Earlier works in this area, such as XXX and YYY, showed that ...
(c) Earlier pieces of work in this area, such as XXX and YYY, showed that ...
Thank you.
It depends. (1.) As a section in a scholarly paper, I would infer that "Related Work" would refer to the identification of project(s) of some type such as research on some area, whereas I see "Related Works" as formal report(s), publications or documentation on certain projects. AND (2.) Depending on what YOU mean by "work" and "works" would determine which to use, but I don't like (c).
Yes, I agree, I got confused by this definition of "works" Works - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary
