Hi there,

Finally I have managed to isolate the problems (there were more than one).

Firstly, the maximum image dimensions for an uploaded file were set to very low values. You can now upload images up to 1024 x 768 pixels.

Secondly, the maximum file size allowed was set to 20 Kb. I have now increased this to 100 Kb.

Even so, your JPG image was very large (275 Kb) so I needed to save a new optimised JPG using 60% compression. This brought the file size down to 25 Kb!

If the image you are uploading exceeds any of these limits it will be posted as a link, rather than a thumbnail.

I hope that's all clear enough. If you need any further help just let me know.

Thanks for that. I knew that EA were doing some research into game based learning, it's good to see they've got some results. I'll haveto hunt around and find out how much information they've released.

Post Re: Video Game for Learning English

My thought is video games do two things, teach to win and teach to kill. Why not to learn English or any language. What is a game, to learn, to win. Whos rules theres, yours, what have you gained by learning theres, they make the rules?

Why not a game where you make the rules yours. Even English has rules. There is the alphabet, the word, the synonyms and the sentence. Surely there is a way to teach language to anyone even those who have trouble comprehending the basics.

Is there a way to relate something to the learner he/she likes and relate the language from there, be it cars, wood, people, pictures, whatever?

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. The players should make the rules? No, that just results in anarchy. The rules are set by the creators or by mutual agreement between the players and then must be adhered to. Certainly there are rules for standard English as well. By sticking to them, you'll be sure to speak well, and by playing well to a games rules you'll be sure to win.

If you want to make a game just for youself, by your own rules, where you win all the time, then it won't be much fun because you'll have to play it alone.
