EFL dictionary of football on UsingEnglish
Hi Everyone (students and teachers)
Starting tomorrow, UsingEnglish.com will be introducing an A to Z of football vocabulary for people who will be watching and reading about the World Cup. The finished version will be offered on the site and as a PDF later on, but first we would like people’s help as we post it bit by bit. Feedback we would like would include:
- Pointing out which explanations which are inaccurate or not clear
- Suggestions for better explanation
- Example sentences (your own or found online)
- Other things starting with those letters that we should include
- Things that aren’t useful and we should leave out
- Suggestions for other information that we should include, for example grammatical information and typical mistakes
Things we are thinking of including are:
- - People
- - Objects
- - Nicknames
- - Clichés
- - Some cultural information
And anything else that people following football in English might find difficult to understand
Thanks in advance for any help you can give us, and hope you find the dictionary (here and the finished version) both useful and fun
All the best
Alex (regular UsingEnglish.com writer)
