Default Word Definition

I love the English language and use what I understand. But I become extremely frustrated and bent out of shape because of word definitions. I love general basic and simple definitions as not to be misunderstood and even then I am. I have met those who treat words as objects and not definitions or with feelings.

To me words can have meanings beyond what the general definition means. How else are we going to communicate unless we understand words have meanings beyond the general defintions. Like the word love to me it has several synonms even while you are looking at the general meaning and I cannot look at it as just a object without meaning. What can I do to better understand how to communicate with people when they assume you meant this word not that one.

Default Re: Word Definition

All communication involves an element of risk because the intended message and the received message may be different. If you use a word in a very personal way, then giving the other person additional information ('by which I mean...) then you are likely to reduce this risk.
