Is it true that America used to speak British accent prior to 4th July,1776? What made you people change the British English to American post 1776? I mean the British accent is absoluely fine and it is used thoughout the UK and amongst various accents and dialects in UK the English accent is the finest of all, the one that we know as Received Pronuncation or BBCEnglish. Why did not America follow the RP or BBC English? I still don’t have answer for this.

Before that date, there were many accents in both Britain and the colonies. There still are.

Accents, and grammar, on both sides of the Atlantic have changed since then.

That is just your opinion. In any case, there are many accents within England itself.

That is just one accent among many. Because it happened to be the accent of many people in positions of power when the BBC started broadcasting, it became the accent with the most prestige for many years.

Why on earth should Americans copy one English dialect? Even within the United Kingdom it is a minority dialect.
