Hi, one useful way to improve listening is to try and get hold of a listening that has a text with it and read and listen at the same time. When you do this you can see how sentences are put together in spoken English. There are a lot of novels published (Penguin Books) with a tape or CD. These novels are written for different levels of English and my students have found them both enjoyable and useful.

I've got the same problem... During our classes we listen to some tapes and I understand them alright (I guess because of the fact that the speed of speech is not that fast). But when I start watching movies I face a lot of difficulties with understanding very fast speech... I tried to listen to news, texts and it helped a bit.
I'll try to listen a text and read a tapescript of it at the same time. Thanks for your tips!
Take care!

I've been working on listening skill too. I like to use pop music to learn it.
When you listen to the music and read the lyric, you can learn the pronouciation. Also, the rhythm of the music help you to say those sentences. It is fun anyway : )

Sure thing , I'm a listener myself, I don't talk much but only when I need to :). My advice to ya, just pay attention to every detail the teacher gives ya and think of a fun way to remeber it, and remember if you PAY ATTENTION, you're more likly to listen before you know it
