Default Is the usage of the verbs correct as well as punctuation?

That evening we ran out of of talk, so we just sat around the fire and sung some old songs, but the harmony was so terrible that we all finally bursted out laughing. He swam as hard as he could against the current but it took him an hour to get to safety. We had driven about halfway when I realized that the brakes were so badly worn it was dangerous to keep going. We wanted to get up a game, but before we had chosen sides the bell rung and we had to go back to the school.
After his fall, he shaked his head to clear it, then rose up and asked us what happened.

The word talk in that sentence is actually a noun. It is synonymous with conversation.

The word worn there is an adjective describing the brakes.

(In that last sentence, I would probably say what had happened.)
