Hi,

Can anyone tell me if this is a correct sentence?

The development of the Victorian domestic ideology and the related concept of “separate spheres” ensued the emergence of a new entrepreneurial and professional class in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

I want to say that the development of... was a consequence of..., but that's rather long and I wondered if I could make it shorter with "ensue".
