St. or St

Hi,

When talking about a place with a St. in the name, such as St. Albans in England, should the full stop be there? This question is aimed at stopping an argument between two people on a forum I use. We checked St. Albans official site but that used St. with and without the full stop.

I assumed that, as St is the shortened version of Saint (another assumption :)), it would have the full stop.

Since "St." is an abbreviation, it gets the full stop (period).

(BTW, I'm from St. Louis.)
