Default Dog Language

The dog is everywhere in Germany. I was once asked: what do you say in English when you give orders to a dog to sit? The German word is: Sitz "sit" Maybe this a German practice or the way to make dogs obey orders. Does sth like that exist in English? I haven't got a dog but I would appreciate some language used by people when speaking or giving orders to dogs.

Default Re: Dog Language

When ordering a dog to sit, we say "Sit!"
When training a dog to walk beside you on his leash, the command is "Heel!"
If you want the dog to lay down, you either say "Lay down" or simply "Down," depending upon how he's been trained.

Of course, the command my dog (R.I.P.) understood best was "Suppertime!"

Thanks Ouisch and Tdol. I believe the language is nearly the same. This is interesting because it reflects the same human behaviour wherever you go.
