My American friends told me that they do not even give a second thought about studying a foreign language because they are too lazy and if they are not lazy they think it would take 6-12 months to speak a foreign language fluently(while living in a country where this particular language is spoken). They also said that even listening to the foreign language or the foreign accent goes on their nerves. It was interesting to listen to their opinions, so very much different from those that most Europeans hold.
Learning a foreign language takes much, much longer that you guys think!

Hard it may be, the effort will soon be rewarded if only the learner would not faint.

More of a hobby. In my case that is... when I was a kid I I used to read the Japanese Translation Book or whatever you wanna call it... Kinda frustrating though, I forgot what I learned (coz that was so long ago... Not to mention I lost that book!) Now, I´m starting to read Korean translation book... so kewl. (why is it that I always get myself into thinking that I was a Korean in my past life... ok nevermind... )

Haha, I think that learning in Translation Books or booklets or whatsoever isn´t the best way of learning a language, though that´s what I did with English, but with other languages, naaah, it isn´t working a bit. I tried it with Chinese a time ago, nothing seems to work with me, it simply bored me out to death. Now I stick back to learning English well enough, I wish I´d sound like a native soon.

I think both languages, Chinese and Korean, are closely related. Why wouldn´t they be, they´re neighbors. They´re both difficult to learn and their grammar is almost completely opposed to that of English.
