Chaucer/ Spencer/ Milton

I took to (re) reading Milton 's poetry . It reminds me of Spencer 's Fairy Queen . Who could give me his opinion on Chaucer, Spencer an Milton's correlations? Style, Syntax. I need hints to start a cross-reading and a analysis.

Do you see much common ground between Chaucer and Milton?

Not much. They wrote in different languages, for a start ;-)

Yes Bob different languages and that is a start . However "dazzling" their differences may be, I can't help being surprised at how huge their respective influences are upon our modern societies.
It is also true for other artists in many fields. My 3 year son and his friends were as if petrified by Mozart ' magic flute' and its story.
My pupils sometimes find delectation in hearing or telling Corneille's lines. It is as if there was a parenthesis in time . We can allegedly appreciate those artists thanks to our knowledge of their codes. Nevertheless, this immediate and taste for master opuses from innocent minds keeps on puzzling me.
There are also anectods like these Indians in South America that appreciated Chopin or Bach .
Beyond style, words , syntax and morphems even musical structures, there is something common to those artists which gets at the core of man.
It is what I feel every time I listen to Bach' Air D major'.
