I agree with this method. In my opinion The best way to learn vocabulay is to divide words into topics.
Hi:
My way of increasing vocabulary sounds not very
sensible.I take the O.E.D all day and try to memorize
the words in it from A to Z.It really helps in a way,but i got all these words confused.

At the moment, I am enriching my range of medical vocabulary. In order to do it effectively, I use my visual dictionary to learn parts of the body, bones, muscles, inner organs etc. It helps me not only to remember English eqiuvalents, but also where the things are. :)
Have you achieved any good result with your method?
How long have you been using it?
Anyway, I don't think that will be very useful. You should choose a few words among those you would use more frequently and focus on them. Learning words that you'll never use adds nothing to your vocabulary.

I try to build my own dictionary. Dictionary of words that I've been using and words I would like to use. I wrote down meanings and usages and sample sentences of how I saw them in a book. Others I ask here in this site from teachers to give me sample sentences or make sentences of my own and let them correct it. I think using the word more often helps a lot and making some categories also will be useful, like if these words could be used at work, in the kitchen, at home, in school, or anywhere else....
I think this method is very basic but it works for me so I go for it....
I also would like to improve my vocabulary, which I think is my achilles' heel, that I would like to write articles using more difficult words and post it here for corrections and help as well....
