Writing a topic for a degree

What is the proper term for “Writing a topic for a degree / A topic to be written for completing a degree”? For this phrase, I mean to say that when a student is assigned to do a curricular project and he must write such the project work to submit to his lecturer or master before completing his course of studies. I know the term for Master degree is “Thesis” and for doctorate degree is “dissertation”, but for an undergraduate who is pursuing for a degree, I don’t know. What should you call such the curricular report writing/or the writing for such purpose, please?

I am not very familiar with the academic world, but you write a paper, not a topic. Instead, you are assigned to write a paper on a particular topic.

The phrase is pursuing a degree. (Omit for.)

One writes a paper or does the work. Also: write the paper; do the work.

Is it no good using it or it doesn't make sense, or I forgot to use "for" with pursuing? If it is no good, what word should be used for? Please explain, clearly, sir.

One pursues a degree or seeks to acquire a degree. You don't use for in the phrase pursues a degree. When I say omit I mean leave it out. Thus, it is my opinion that you don't need (and shouldn't have) "for" in that expression.

Thank you again for your reply, this second time request of mine, I got it now what it is. The English language is sometimes quite difficult to understand, even though I have many reliable dictionaries to consult before writing, but I found it so hard to write it correctly, indeed.
