In the last days I've been considering the possibility of taking an English certificate and I've been wondering whether exam takers who tend to have an American accent may be penalized in the University of Cambridge ESOL examinations. Does anyone have some experience with these exams?
As far as I know there isn't any problem. Maybe you should be especially careful with either and neither. Needless to say that you need to be aware of lorry - truck, pavement - sidewalk, and some other words!
Good luck!!
Not at all; Cambridge ESOL would not penalise you in any way for using American English, spoken or written. They do say that they expect spelling to be consistent, so use the variant of English you speak normally and you will have no problems.
