I'm wondering if you can help me. I am currently teaching in France and have a student who wants to get a job in the UK. She would like to take an exam to show her competence in English and asked me about the IELTS and TOEIC which one is the most popular for British employers? Thanks, Liz

TOEIC is not widely used in the UK; I think the lack of Writing and Speaking components doesn't attract. IELTS is OK, but predominantly for academic entry. How about Cambridge ESOL CAE or CPE?

Thanks for the advice i'll have a look at the cambridge site. You're right about the TOEIC but for some reason in France all employers ask for this as a benchmark-strange french people!!!

TOEIC is popular in a few countries, but I rarely heard it mentioned in the UK.
