Default How can I use yet as a conj.?

Hello my friends, I have two questions about (YET) .
The first one:
How can I use (yet) as a conjunction?
The second one:
How can use it at the beginning of the sentences?

Like this:

conj.
And despite this; nevertheless: She said she would be late, yet she arrived on time.

My inclination is to say that you should use it the same way you use but, but but is already doing that.

Yet can be used the same way we use 'however' at the beginning of a sentence, as well as a conjunction.

I've thought of "yet" as being more like "but" when used as a conjunction.

Yet can function like 'but' or 'however' in BE.

Same in AE. I just associate it more closely with "but" for some reason.

You see 'yet' with a comma and without in BE, so it can be the full 'however' or not as strong according to sense.
