Default Writing the letter H

Hi

When writing a sentence with a word beginning with the letter H, if the word has a silent H, such as Hour, would you write "I will be there in an hour" or "I will be there in a hour".

Thanks

I would use "an hour".

Default Re: Writing the letter H

It's not determined by what the beginning of the word looks like on the page but what it sounds like. The beginning of the word "hour" sounds like a vowel sound so it must be preceded by "an".

The same rule applies to abbreviations like MP (an MP)or or a word like X-ray (an X-ray).
