Question Don't forget to clean your teeth

Quote:
In television interviews, she painted a heart-rending picture of having to hand over her young son in a lay-by off the M40 so she could meet her commitments to her constituents.

'Mummy, mummy, don't leave me.' 'Sorry, darling, but the people of Bromsgrove need me. Don't forget to clean your teeth.'

Priceless. For everything else, there's the Additional Costs Allowance.

Unlike millions of other working women, Kirkbride leads a hugely privileged and lavishly-rewarded life.
Littlejohn: Nice legs Julie, shame about the expenses | Mail Online
The quote is excerpted from a columnist's article from Daily Mail. I wonder why the columnist quoted Kirkbride's son words about 'Don't forget to clean your teeth.' here. Does it mean Kirkbride would not go home to take care of her son because she would work late?

Thank you!

Hello again Daffs,

The phrase is supposed to suggest that JK did not even bother to attend to her offspring's basic ablutionary requirements, before setting off for work each morning.

All the best,

MrP
