Power

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if you can help me out with something.

I've been struggling to figure out whether the word Power (meaning of strength), as it is in english, is known/understood around the world.

Do the majority of people in your countries know what power mean in their own language?

Any helps would be greatly appreciated.

probably not. But i would say that "power" would generally be understood as "a source of electricity" rather than as "strength" - because this is the usage it receives most often in the media. Coal power, nuclear power, etc.
another common meaning is "control". Eg. "which party is in power in your country?"

most languages do not have "power" in their lexicons.

It comes from the French, pouvoir.... but are you talking about the physical quantity, meaning the rate at which energy is transferred, in kW? If so, I'm sure it means the same thing all round the world.
