Learning languages seems to be one of the hardest things for some people like me, whereas some other people appear to absorb it relatively easily.
I wonder whether I've got a much smaller brain...as I'm not good at remembering things.

Btw,Eden Darien! I'm very impressed by your multi-language skill. You must have a flair for languages. Good for you!
Nah, I just love languages. I am fond of them and always amaze with their structures and uniqueness... If we believe, everything is possible. I still have a lots of mistakes whether in grammar or structures. Hey, Nobody's perfect... Right? Just keep moving forward and everything will be fine...

Never think that you are not smart just because others seem to pick up other languages faster. Everyone's brain works differently, and there have been many studies showing that some people's brains work better for memorization, while others work better for logical problem-solving, etc. Also, some of those people may have developed systems for remembering parts of the language, such as a form of mnemonics. Here is some more info about mnemonics as a whole:

Mnemonic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You can create your own system (whatever works for you) to help you with remembering vocabulary words, or with sentence structure or whatever you need. Just experiment with it, and see if you can make up something that works for you, and eventually you will not need them after enough repetition. Just be sure it does not end up slowing you down.

When I was learning the Japanese Hiragana and Katakana alphabets, I learned the sounds each letter made by associating a familiar picture to it. For example, the character for "to" (pronounced like "tow truck") happened to look like a "toe" on someone's foot, so that one was very easy to learn. This type of system for learning Hiragana and Katakana is so common, that almost every textbook teaches it this way now, so these types of systems can work quite well.

Yup...

If we think negatively, we may end up that way. So whatever happened, just believe in yourself, and everything will be fine.

Nowadays, I am attending Korean Language Course, at Korean Language Institute. Most of my friends can speak more than 3 languages. Not to mention I have a friend who can speaks 6 different languages!! By Jove! That's splendid!!

Nobody's perfect! and you know what! I'm so bad at Maths!! Really, my Maths is what we can call catastrophic!! So my point is, everybody's got strong and weak points. But never take things for granted! Works for it and by doing so I believe we can go together as far as we think we can Aja-Aja Fighting!!!!

Hi guys . I was really impressed the way you guys analyze things. my friend grape fruit has problem with speaking . well what I know is u are living in UK which means its completely not easy to speak and understand every single word . I believe English accent is difficult than American accent . I live in Canada and I found it easy to understand people as they speak clear and understandable English. what I suggest, if you want to drink from the English fountain you should take some public speaking courses . they are very helpful.
Good luck .

Good for you, Ruba Saeed
That sounds really good advice. Mind you, I did try your methods and still sometimes do every now and then, reading out loud and translating texts into English, even talking to myself all the time. They'd probablly help as long as you make a great deal of efforts every single day. I should blame myself for my slow progress as I often get bogged down with overflowing new vocabularies and I get easily bored. However, I really appreciate your comment and wish you every sucess with your studying English.

Hi Ana,

Let's keep practice and hope we'll get over this problem very soon.
I think this problem is to do with personality as well since I come across as rather quiet and cold although I think I'm not that kind(!). I should try to be bubbly and talkative not worrying my mistakes.
Thanks for sharing your problem with me

hi
I'm pleased that my advice worked with you, Keep it up. I think talking to yourself can be a great help to express yourself. for the new words, I dont give a great care for them, however, I try to pronounce them correctly and understand the whole meaning. It is very hard to copy every word you meet to mind because you will forget it sooner or later unless you use them constantly in daily life.
