All talk and no trousers

The female version is "fur coat and no knickers"

I likle it, but isn't it slighly straining logic- if they have no knickers... ;-)

isn't this like an editted version of "All talk and trousers" ?

There are various versions of this idiom going around. Apparently, it started in the north of England without the negative and picked up the negative on it's trip south. ;-)

In Italian 'Tanto fumo ma niente arrosto' which means 'a lot of smoke but no roast(meat)'

all hat and no cattle implies the person thus described is a liar, a fraudster, not just a boaster who won't do what he says. it's a guy(or gal) who makes grandious claims that have no basis in reality. for somebody who talks the talk without walking the walk, as ur definition of the idiom all talk and no trousers suggests, all bark and no bite would be a better fit

We have the same in French: "Chien qui jappe ne mord pas" (dog that barks does not bite), but it rather refers to someone who talks tough, but never hurt anybody. In my mind, this is not quite the same meaning as "All talk and no trousers".

As you have it in French, we have in Urdu too, it means same that barking dogs seldom bite. One more is similar to it that 'jo garajtay hain wo barastey nahi' - i don't know what it will be called in english, never heard.......

I think these mean that a person talks a lot about himself, praises himself a lot. But in reality, he is of no use and can do nothing.
