I rightly thought that it was expensive but I didn't think 'very'.
One meaning that came to my mind was 'an honest living'. Probably because of 'an honest penny' or 'turn up an honest penny'.
Are they really idioms or just 'a fig of my imagination'?

A Pretty Penny has the same meaning as An Arm And A Leg -- Very expensive.
