As some of you here know, I am fascinated by how certain language items (words, expressions, etc) can have positive or negative connotations for their receivers, often independent of the dictionary meaning. In Linguistics this is called semantic prosody.
The poll question is about the quite common expression "the Americanizing of our culture"
Should we explain why now, or hold our horses? ;-)

Hello!
I am new here, and just noticed that you have a thread about semantic prosody. I am studying post graduate English and have to do a seminar paper on semantic prosody. I also find it fascinating just as you said M56, and agree with you.
So far U have read Sinclair's Trust The Text, an article by Wolfram Bublitz, and Michael Hoey's vies on semantic prosody. Could you recommend some further reading? Am just starting with my seminar paper and could use some suggestions, since this is a relatively new linguistiv topic.
