A register is a style that you'd use in a certain situation. Generally, you'd use a different register at home and at work; to an adult compared to a child, etc.
Jargon means the actual technical words of particular topic. It means just the vocabulary, and doesn't cover things like different politeness levels, etc. that register covers.

That concept doesn't make sense. You can do a pragmatic analysis or a discourse analysis on the same set of words.
Discourse analysis is the analysis of texts which are longer than a sentence.
Pragmatic analysis is the analysis of the function of a particular phrase as it is used in conversation, as opposed to its grammatical structure.

Many thanks in advance,
Those explanations are not complete (they aren't strict definitions) but it's somewhere to start.

Thank you so much Raymott. Finally you did me a favour and answered my linguistic questions.

Really I cannot separate Discourse analysis from pragmatics. Brown, Yule and Framkin gave a number of examples, but I cannot distinguish which are the examples of pragmatics and which are those of Discourse analysis. Do you mind giving an example to me?

It would be easier if you posted some of those examples which you are having trouble with, and we could discuss those.

"Pragmatics"

A; hello
B;Hi,A, Is your mom there?
A;Just a minute. mom!phone!
Mom;I'm in the tub
A;She cant talk now. wanna leave a mesage?
B;oh, I will call back later. Bye.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
''Discourse analysis"

A; Got the time?
B; Ten fifteen

waiter; More coffee?
customer; I'm ok

parent; Dinner!
child; just a moment!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
How can I recognize P&D from the above examples?

You can't. I still think you have the concept wrong.
These are examples of discourse which present a literal meaning which is different from the pragmatic reading.

Mom;I'm in the tub
A;She cant talk now.

Literally, Mom is saying, "I'm in the tub". Pragmatically, she's saying "I can't come to the phone right now".
A; Got the time?
B; Ten fifteen
Literally, A is asking whether B has the time. Pragmatically, A is asking to be given the time. He is not simply interested in knowing whether B has it.

In both of these cases, the hearer has understood the pragmatic message.

So, none of those dialogues are examples of pragmatics or discourse analysis, just as they are not examples of syntactical or semantic analysis, or of spelling or morphology.
I do not know know why they have been presented under different headings.

Are these examples or questions? It's still difficult for me to imagine what the actual book says, and what you are presenting here. What have you left out?

[Phone rings, a ten-year-old child picks up the phone]
Mom;[from upstairs]I'm in the tub
A;[returning to the phone]She cant talk now.
You would refer to page 257 "Principles of language learning and teaching" by Douglas Brown.
I might be wrong.
Literally, Mom is saying, "I'm in the tub". Pragmatically, she's saying "I can't come to the phone right now".
A; Got the time?
B; Ten fifteen
Page 253 of the given book of Brown is also talking about Discourse Analysis and gave 3 examples of that. I had copied the very examples of this page.
according to the describtion of discourse analysis;
The analysis of the relationship between forms and functions of language is commonly called Discourse Analysis, which encompasses the notion that language is more than a sentence-level phenomenon. A single sentence can seldom be fully analysed without considering its context. We use language in stretches of discourse. We string many sentences together in interelated, cohisive units.............
Literally, A is asking whether B has the time. Pragmatically, A is asking to be given the time. He is not simply interested in knowing whether B has it.

In both of these cases, the hearer has understood the pragmatic message.

Only the [] in pragmatics part.

A register is a level of language: slang, familiar, informal, formal, academic....
Jargon is a pejorative term for the lexicon of a particular area or field.

In the academic register we have the anthropolgy lexicon, the literature lexicon, the linguistic, the medical, the historical... lexicons.

Pragmatics concerns itself with the way in which the interpretation of meaning is assisted by real-world factors such as who is speaking, where, in front of whom, to whom.

Discourse analysis is far more general, and can involve non-pragmatic (non-concrete) matters such as style, cultural references, poetic or asthetic intentions, rhetorical devices... all of which form part of the discourse or text, but do not have very much to do with place, time, the number of people in the audience, etc.

Hope this helps as well. Sometimes having 2 teachers' points of view broadens the understanding.
