Redundancy rules
What does it mean that 'If...then...' is a usual format of redundancy rules? I need an example.

If it rains, then I will take an umbrella.
If it rains, I will take an umbrella.
There's no difference in meaning between the two, so then serves no purpose- it's redundant.
