palindrome vs. ambigram

Is there a difference between palindroms and ambigrams?

An ambigram can be turned upside down or through certain angles to ahcieve the effect- it is a vuisual effect, while a palindrome is just the spelling. If you look here, there's an ambigram of the word ambigram, achieved through design effects:

Anyway, word "madam" can be both palindrom and ambigram, can't it?

If you turn it upside down, it wouldn't look the same- the M would become a W. If you look at it in a mirror, the D looks wrong if you use ordinary letters, but if you play with it, then it would easily become an ambigram. 'mum' is naturally be both because of the mirror style of ambigram. ;-)

So "A TOYOTA" is? I've long felt that some enterprising marketing copy-writer at Toyota lost his job because he proposed:


The car behind is A TOYOTA


because that's the way it looks in the rear-view mirror.

Sorry Lenka - I keep forgetting where I am, and making references to English culture.

There was a fairly recent advertising campaign, based on the expression The car in front is a Toyota. I was suggesting that these words were inspired by the sight of A TOYOTA in the mirror (which would have prompted the words "The car behind ...").
