Read a lot, on a lot of different topics. The key to good listening can also be having some idea of what the message is about. Even good speakers of English have troubles understanding correct spoken English because they are complete strangers to the topic. BBC may sound clear and intelligible but also its topics are riddled with uncommon Latin, highbrow E. terms. Also,
focus when you listen - focus on the essentials, the main ideas, catch the point. Focus on expressions by writing them down and visualizing them as well. Many time, language just passes us by - we think we hear it, but we hear a rain of sounds without any meaning to us. The best thing with listening to BBC could be that you emulate the accent -a little bit. Making meaning of what's being said requires: attention; some basic knowledge about the topic; an approriate level of English to begin with. Hard as you may try, you cannot listen and make sense of an advanced English text from an unsubstantial platform of English language skills.
