Smile Definition of Feedback

Hi everyone,
How can I give an academic definition to Feedback on ESL writing?
I found just one definition by Kepner (1991) "any procedures used to inform a learner whether an instructional response is right or wrong.”

And I found another one by some Taiwanese researcher "one of the micro-environmental factors affecting the quality and rate of second language acquisition."

Are there any other definitions?

Thank you!

Thanks, but I need a definition in the teaching methods field ...this seems a general definition since the source is Webster.

Students learn better when they can find out, as soon as possible, whether they are understanding a new topic or not. This means that a teacher should let each student know, individually, on a frequent basis, which areas of study he is doing well on, and which areas he needs to work harder on. This is how a teacher should provide feedback to students. It is unfortunate that many teachers, especially at the university level, feel that a mid-term grade and a final grade are the only feedback a student needs.

Feedback is any response a teacher may give for his or her students needs.

Well, I found paraphrases of it in
"Response to Student Writing: Implications for Second Language Students", by Dana Ferris,p.123
and again in
Arthur L. Costa's "The School as a Home for the Mind" p.53
hope this helps
