It is easier to lern languages when we are young. The sooner you start the more natural it seems to the child. By age 15 it becomes a real chore!

What do you mean by 'the first year'? There are many possible meanings, ranging from a few months [the first year of life] to 7 [the start of formal education in some countries] - and even, maybe (if you're referring to the first year of secondary education) much older.

The sooner the better, I'd say, though some teachers recommend delaying till about age 3. Certainly schools should teach it (though the parents have probably missed the boat by then if they haven't started already - I didn't start learning foreign languages until far too late).

There is a period which brain can learn a language as good as native speakers. This period ends in puberty around 12 and after that it becomes more diffecult. Unfortunately, Saudi students start to learn languages in 12.

Importance of learning English has increased tremendously in Malaysia. Now, some of them start to learn English since young (before they go to school). From what I see here, those who learn the language earlier has the advantage to master it better. We do not need to emphasize much on their vocabulary. Teachers only need to help this group with their grammar as they might not be aware of it when they use the language.

Conclusion, the sooner the better.
