Default Invalid sessions and session time-outs

Invalid sessions and session time-outs

It seems that people who had registered with the forum before I made some recent changes have been experiencing this problem. Unfortunately, the solution is rather complex.

The problem occurs because of the way the forum uses cookies to store your log-in details. It is an issue with many sites using this brand of forum software.

Here's what you need to do...

For the following I shall assume you are using Internet Explorer, although there should be parallel ways of doing this in other browsers.

These phpBB forums store login information on your computer by using cookies. I've recently made some changes to how the cookies are stored, and as a consequence you may need to delete your old cookies from your system before the new settings take place.

Basic Method:
This will delete all cookies from your computer and reset a number of auto-login type features of any sites you visit (like Delphi login info).
  1. Close all browser windows
  2. Click your right mouse button over the icon for Internet Explorer on your desktop
  3. Select Properties
  4. In the section that's called Temporary Internet Files, select Delete Files
  5. Make sure that Delete all offline content is ticked
  6. Select OK

Advanced Method:
This will allow you to delete only content from usingenglish.com
  1. Close all browser windows
  2. Click your right mouse button over the icon for Internet Explorer on your desktop
  3. Select Properties
  4. In the section that's called Temporary Internet Files, select Settings
  5. Now click on View Files
  6. Within the list of files presented you need to delete a specific cookie from usingenglish.com. My cookie is called forum and it has the internet address EMAIL REMOVED - Send PM to This User Instead/forum/.

Once this is done, you can log back into the forum - just make sure you tick the box to Log me on automatically each visit.

Hope that helps.

One other setting should also be adjusted.

Check for newer versions of stored pages

For the following I shall assume you are using Internet Explorer (IE), although there should be parallel ways of doing this in other browsers.

Method:
  1. Click your right mouse button over the icon for Internet Explorer on your desktop and then select Properties, or select Internet Options from the Tools menu in IE
  2. Click the Settings button from the Temporary Internet Files section.
  3. In the section that's called Check for newer versions of storred pages, select Every visit to the page
  4. Select OK

Please note that the cookie details have been updated.

See point 6 in the Advanced Method above.
