| The word Maths is a plural contraction of mathematics. I can pronounce "math" accurately with the TH sound, but I just don't know how to sound off "maths" to combine the "th" sound and the "s" sound. It will come off my tongue sounding off as "mats" but the th sound would be lost. If I blend the TH and S sound together and sound it off, it sounds "ma-f- ss", is this a good way to say this "maths" word ? For me, it sounds unnatural and more than a mouthful. |

'Mathematics' - like physics, rheumatics, aerobics, isometrics .... - is singular; it just happens to have an s on the end, like kudos. Quote:

| Yes, there's no way around the fact that pronouncing it exactly involves a quick tongue. But try not sticking it out too far in this case, before the s. Or, just say it as we do in AmE: math. |
