ymnisky will become famous soon enough
Default finite vs infinite

What is the pronunciation of these two words?
I have searched and the "i's" in finite and infinite seem to be pronounced quite differently. Adding the prefix "in" to the word finite changes its pronunciation?

A word like "unfinite" which would have a similar pronunciation to "finite" seems not to exist in English.

crf07796 is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: finite vs infinite

It is a hard "i" in finite. It sounds like "Figh (rhymes with "high") night." In the word "infinite" it is a soft "i". So it sounds like "in fin (like a dolphin's fin) it". Hope that helps.

Also, you are correct, the word "unfinite" is not a word.
