On the contrary, it's perfect -- until you develop your own natural style of speaking.
I think I also found his lack of any sort of natural rhythm a bit odd too. His speech seemed so measured - everything got an equal beat.
Do you know that on Dictionary and Thesaurus - Merriam-Webster Online there is a little red speaker symbol that will pronounce words for you?

Our American English is almost always flat. Watch the BBC for a day and you'll agree.
Actually I am not sure what "flat" is, is that mean smooth, without raised and not sloping or curving? If so, CNN news is not "flat", the anchors speak like singing a song...with curving.....By the way, the following link is BBC news podcast, I listen it everyday, everyone can hear it to compare...
