extra loundness is secondary, imo. The trick is to hold the vowel longer: if it is a long vowel, you have no problems. In the case of short vowels, you need to focus on the consonants just before the stressed vowel.
Well, solchu, what do you think "extra" loudness means? (I have my own ideas.)
