I'm not good for understanding english verbally but here, the "I am" sounds strangely... It's maybe me but I listen "I yo American"

1. Yes, I understand it well.

2. It doesn't sound American. It sounds like a robotic voice.

It doesn't have the intonation of a natural and real voice.

X-mode, your opinion is very important to me. Indeed the speaker has been following Microsoft Text-to-Speech for so long. They said the TTS sounds very standard AmE. Now it turned to be that it just sounds unnatural and unreal.

Currently, I'll have to post more clips to get more opinions about the speaker's sound, and then the speaker will know how to improve his pronunciation.

PS. Nicoschmeii,

The sound file reads "Hello, are you American?"
