is diphthong eɪ ( like 'face' - macmillandictionary.com/dictionary/british/face - pronounced with e and vowel long i ( like 'feel' ) or e and short i ( like 'fill' ) ?

to my ear, this diphthong sounds like a combination of e and long i although it is written with e and short i -
