    Default Won't want

Is there any difference between "won't" and "want" in British English?
I heard there's a difference between them in American English, and someone told me they are pronounced the same in British English.

    Hi JustLearningEnglish

Yes there is a difference in the pronunciation of the "o" sound (in British English).

In "won't" it's pronounced long (as in "note")
In "want" it's pronounced short (as in "not").

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Sir!

By the way, do you pronounce these word pairs the same:

    1. Scold - scald
    2. Bowl - ball

I again heard that in the UK people pronounce them in a similar fashion, if not the same.

    Thanks again!

They're close but not identical to me.

    Hi JustLearningEnglish
    1.
Scold: rhymes with bold, cold, fold, old
Scald: rhymes with balled, called, stalled
    2.
Bowl: rhymes with coal, foal, goal, hole, whole
Ball: rhymes with all, call, fall, gall, hall

    Hope this helps
