Yes, you could have a point there. I don't know how things look to you. Popular entertainment and other media certainly have given false impressions and have been misleading. I can't say to what extent this continues. I don't watch television, and I'm very selective about which movies I watch.
Still, I think one could be more careful and thoughtful of what one says.

I would say that 95% of the time I pronounce the "ing" as written. It's only with some words, and then only when I really get going and am saying a lot, that I make it more like an "n" sound, but that itself is often rare.
