I like apple.
A Japanese friend asked me if this is correct, "I like apple."
I told her it is correct if you are refering an apple flavor. I told her instead of saying "I like apple" she should say,
"I like apples" because it is more than one apple that she actually likes.
I'm wondering if everyone is in agree on this advice?

I'd use the same forms as you for the flavour and the fruit.

So would I.
I would also use 'apple' when the fuit is cooked, but I am not consistent here. If the fruit remains whole, as in baked apple(s), I may use either; thus I would say:
There are four baked apples left over.
We've got baked apple(s) for pudding.
We've got stewed apple(?apples) and custard for pudding.
ps. I'm wondering if everyone is in agrees on this advice? With is more natural here, IMO
