The pronunciation of "Bill" and "Billy"

Hi Everyone,

I understand how to pronounce "Bill" correctly;but I don't know how to pronounce "Billy" correctly, I've checked the pronunication in dictionaries, it shows the pronunciation is Bill + ly sound, but I always hear people say Bi + ly sound, please let me know which pronunciation is correct? Thanks.

I say bi + ly, not two l sounds.

So do I. Using to /l/s in adjacent syllables is fairly unusual in English - occurring (sometimes) when an adjective ending in 'l' has the suffix '-ly' attached. For example, some people will pronounce 'cooly' /'ku:lli:/; but some people say /ku:li:/. And some feel that they should double the /l/ and so they avoid that word and think of a near-synonym like 'nonchalantly' (which, interestingly - for me anyway has a similar meaning, involving the lack of heat - chaleur)
