I have to teach a grammar lesson on 'will' soon. I was wondering how would I write the contracted form of 'will' using the phonemic alphabet?

Would it simply be, /l/?

Yep. You'll be writing just the sound belonging to the "ll" spelling, so it's just /l/.

/l/ is fine when 'll follows a pronoun; after names, 'll is often a full syllable - you'll need /əl/:

It's [ɫ] in many accents, but the phoneme is indeed /l/.
