IPA of disgusting
Hi all all teachers.
The IPA of disgusting (dictionary.com) is dɪsˈgʌstɪŋ, dɪˈskʌs-/.
I don't understand why they use dɪsˈgʌstɪŋ, dɪˈskʌs(we heard k not g).
Thank you.

Re: IPA of disgusting
Welcome to the forum, paul.
For some speakers, the /g/ may become devoiced after the voiceless /s/, resulting in a sound similar to /k/. The phonetics editors of most dictionaries regard this as a devoiced /g/, an allophone of /g/, but the phonetics editor of dictionary.com, unlike the compilers of the LPD or the Cambridge EPD, has chosen to transcribe this version separately.

Re: IPA of disgusting
So it's hard to tell whether someone is saying 'You disgust me' and 'You discussed me'
