Yes it is possible. Another possibility: a-toh, with the first vowel being a schwa.
And I would have said "ay (rhymes with hay)-toe." So I guess we need a scientist.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
