    Default "streit"

    Matthew 26

5"But not during the Passover celebration," they agreed, "or the people may riot."

    riot /rat/
    right /rat/

While I was looking for words that rhyme with the word riot because it seems has two syllables. I thought it could be rhyme with the word right . However, another problem has emerged when I found that the word "streit" among a collection of words that have been said that they are have the same pronunciation but different spelling and meaning.

    What rhymes with right?

I checked "streit" up in Collins Dictionary but as you see: "Sorry, no results for “streit” in the Collins English Dictionary."

Question: Will you transcript the word "streit" please?

P.S.: I haven’t seen the word "streit" before, but I am familiar with another word since it is being used in

Only with great difficulty and by sacrificing natural pronunciation. It's the sort of thing you could get away with in a song.

I remember a slogan popular in the early-eighties during the miners' strike: 'Fight for the right to work'; it played on that partial rhyme.

    b

PS ('Straits of Hormuz' are akin to the 'strait' in straitjacket and strait-laced; cognate with French étroit.)
